We will be providing live updates from the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and support class races from the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN for Saturday night, June 21, 2014. Tonight’s updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

Drivers meeting is set for 7:00 with cars to hit the track around 7:30..

Weather: 

There are pop up thunderstorms all around east Tennessee.

General Information:

Jimmy Owens and Don O’Neal have combined to win each of the last 6 LOLMDS events.

Don O’Neal came into this weekend holding the LOLMDS points lead coming into this weekend over Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson, Jr. and Steve Francis.

This is the second of a double header weekend for the LOLMDS. The series raced last night at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC.

Don O’Neal won last night’s LOLMDS race in Gaffney, SC to extend his series lead.

7:00- Drivers meeting is underway.

The Crate Late Models will be locked into the feature via qualifying.

There is a huge crowd here tonight.

7:40- Hot laps are underway.

7:50- One of the Street Stock cars just suffered a failure and dumped liquid of some sort all over the track.

There will be three heat races transferring the top-6 from each. There will be one B-main transferring the top-4 to the feature. There will be two LOLMDS provisionals.

Scott Bloomquist was fastest in hot laps with a 14.700. That’s well below the track record. He was the only driver in the 14 second bracket.

8:48- Heat 1 rolling out.

Heat 1 lineup: 0, 101, 23, 5j, 22, 12, 257, 9c, 53.

Heat 1 Results: 1. Bloomquist, 2. Roberts, 3. Blankenship, 4. Ferguson, 5. Jacobsen, 6. Hughes.

After the initial start was waved off, Bloomquist dominated.

Heat 2 lineup: 157, 44, 6, 15, 20, 91p, 28e, 4t, 4v

Heat 2 Results: 1. Pearson, 2. M Marlar, 3. Francis, 4. Davenport, 5. Owens, 6. Erb

A great battle between Francis, Davenport and Owens for 3rd.

Heat 3 lineup: 28c, 5, 777, 17m, 7, 31, 52d, 201, 49.

Heat 3 Results: 1. Carrier, 2. Landers, 3. O’Neal, 4. McIntosh, 5. Douglas, 6. Kelso.

On the initial start, McDowell went high and hit the wall. Arp was collected. Both cars were eliminated.

9:35- B-main about to go. Top-4 transfer. Neither McDowell nor Billy Ogle made it out for the b-main.

B-main Results: 1. Kerr, 2. Cook, 3. Carver, 4. S Marlar.

*For the second night in a row, Bloomquist having radiator trouble. Crew hurriedly changing this before the feature.

Dale McDowell and Jason Papich received the two LOLMDS provisional starting spots.

10:15- 50-lap feature rolling out.

10:25- Driver introductions are complete and the engines have fired.

Jason Hughes has lost his left front tire and wheel on the pace lap. His crew replaced the tire and he’s back out before the green flag.

10:35- Green flag!

Lap 3 caution for Pearson off the pace. He’s out. Bloomquist leads Carrier, Roberts, Marlar, O’Neal, Blankenship, Francis, Davenport, Ferguson, Jacobsen.

Halfway- Bloomquist leads Roberts, O’Neal, Davenport, Carrier.

Lap 34 caution. Papich went high and got into the turn one wall. When the car rolled back down the banking he collected Francis, Jacobsen, Owens and S Marlar. Also, Bloomquist has a flat tire.

Owens being towed off on the hook. Car heavily damaged. Jacobsen and Francis may be able to continue.

Bloomquist pits to change the tire. Order is now Roberts, O’Neal, Davenport, Carrier and M Marlar.

Lap 38 caution for spin by Hughes. Roberts leads O’Neal, Davenport, Marlar, Carrier and Bloomquist

Feature finish: 1. Casey Roberts, 2. Davenport, 3. Bloomquist, 4. O’Neal, 5. Erb

An incredible last 10 laps! Davenport, Bloomquist and O’Neal staged an amazing race for 2nd. Then Davenport chased Roberts down from 10-15 car lengths behind with sparks flying as he was scraping the wall. Davenport dove under Roberts in turn three on last lap but couldn’t make it stick.

Roberts is in a new Longhorn Chassis that he debuted last night in Gaffney.

Bloomquist says his left rear had a slice in it from running over something on track.

11:15- Crate LM feature lined up on the track.

11:20- Green flag!

Caution in turn one just after the completion of lap 1. Big crash involving Dennis, McMahan, Seagle, McWhorter and Huskey. Welshan leads Teague and Wyatt.

Lap 12 caution as 3rd running Teague goes up in smoke. Welshan leads and has been dominant so far. Wyatt is 2nd and Moses 3rd.

Feature finish: 1. Jason Welshan, 2. Wyatt, 3. Moses, 4. Coffey, 5. Trent.

Race ran caution free after lap 12 and Welshan dominated.

Street Stock

Car Count- 17 cars

Heat 1- 1. Charles Devine, 2. Charlie Roberts, 3. Robby Buchanan, 4. Travis Reno.

Heat 2- 1. Brady Lee, 2. Kurt Owens, 3. Chad McLemore, 4. Shane Taylor.

Feature Results: 1. Kurt Owens, 2. Robby Buchanan, 3. Charles Devine, 4. Shane Taylor.

Thrilling finish as Owens and Buchanan were in a near dead heat at the line.

*It looks as if Owens’ win has been disallowed. Buchanan’s car was moved to victory lane.

It has been reported that Owens had aluminum heads and that was the reason for his disqualification.
