Live Updates: Carolina Clash at Smoky Mountain(8-15-15)

InsideDirtRacing.com will be providing live updates from the Carolina Clash race from the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN for Saturday night, August 15, 2015. Tonight’s updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

Classes in action: Southern Nationals Super Late Models for $5,000-to-win, Limited Late Models for $1200-to-win and Street Stocks for $500-to-win.

*These updates will primarily focus on the Carolina Clash and Limited Late Model races. Other updates may be limited in favor of obtaining photos and/or stories. 

General Information: Drivers meeting is set to begin at 6:30pm.

Weather looks to be warm with little chance for rain.

Ben Watkins enters the race with a commanding lead in the Carolina Clash standings.

This will be the first time the Carolina Clash has ever visited Smoky Mountain Speedway. However, the series has made four stops at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap so far this year.

Drivers meeting pushed back to 7:00pm.

7:20- Drivers meeting has concluded.

7:35- Hot laps underway.

Feature Notes:

9:16- Cars rolling out for the feature.

9:25- Four wide!

9:27- Green flag!

Lap 5 caution as the third running Watkins hits the turn one wall. He had been running a higher line than the others and appeared to catch the cushion. Ellis took the lead at the start and still holds it over Ferguson, McIntosh, Douglas, Ogle, Kerr, Crabtree and Cook.

Caution on the restart. Marlar spins on the backstretch and Arp is collected.

Lap 6 caution as top-10 runners Kerr and Ogle get tangled up in turn 2. Ferguson was making a strong bid for the lead just as the caution came out. Order is now Ellis, Ferguson, Douglas, McIntosh, Cook, Crabtree. Kerr pulls back on track as does Ogle.

Lap 7 caution as Sanders slows suddenly then gets spun as Arp was unable to avoid contact.

Looked like some hard feelings in the pit area between the Marlar and Sanders crews.

Lap 8 caution for Croft in the turn one wall. Ellis leads Ferguson, Douglas, Wolfenbarger, Cook, McIntosh, Best, White,Carver, Ogle, Kerr.

Restarts have been pretty wild as there appears to be a bump in turn one that is causing the cars to get unsettled.

Lap 9 caution as the leading car of Ellis breaks and comes to a stop. Moses was collected in that. Ferguson now leads Douglas, Cook, Wolfenbarger, McIntosh, Best, White and Ogle.

Lap 23 caution as McIntosh spins on the backstretch. Ferguson had pulled out to a big lead prior to the yellow. Douglas is second followed by Cook, Wolfenbarger, Ogle, Best, White, Carver, Sanders, Wilson.

Lap 34- Second running Cook dropped out with mechanical trouble.

Ferguson won by half of a lap. Only the top-3 were on the lead lap and only 8 cars finished.

It was Ferguson’s first win at Smoky Mountain. He won the Carolina Clash sanctioned Shrine 100 at Carolina Speedway on Tuesday.

10:20- Feature lined up on the front straight.

Lap 2 caution as the 27 of Covington spins in turn 2 and collects the 27 of Parker. Giffin leads Manley, Kennedy, Estes and Russell.
