East Tennessee Dirt Racing Re-cap for April 10-13

There was no shortage of action on the dirt tracks around our region on the weekend of April 10-13 as Mother Nature provided spectacular weather and the drivers provided thrilling, high speed action on the red clay of east Tennessee.

Here are some of the results:

411 Motor Speedway: Adam Beeler has picked up where he left off last year in terms of winning races. The CVR Race Cars driver who scored double digit numbers of wins in 2013 in Crate Late Model competition all over the region scored his second win of the season on the Seymour, Tenn. track, having won the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Touring Series race there last Saturday night. Cory Hedgecock and Pierce McCarter followed Beeler to the finish in the track’s top class.

David Miley won in the Thunder & Lightning division while Jerry Hux took the Street Stock feature. Wayne Rader was the winner in Sportsman and Michael Courtney won again in Mini Stocks.

Boyd’s Speedway: Once again, the Ringgold, GA third-mile facility staged weekly racing with all five of its regular classes in action.

Jamie Perry won out against a field 17 Limited Late Models in the track’s top class. John Owenby, Brannon Armitage and Greg Tinker followed the winner to the checkered flag.

Kenny Kizzar won a thriller in the Crate Late Model feature ahead of Ryan Gifford, Jeff Smith and Rick Hixson.

The A-Hobby winner was Booger Brooks ahead of Beau Bice. Dallas Brooks took the B-Hobby feature while David Singleton was the victor in Front Runners.

Crossville Raceway: Just one week after the unexpected passing of track owner Buddy Sheehan, the dirt oval located on the Cumberland Plateau returned to action on Saturday night.

Brett Wyatt scored the win in the Late Model class out of a field of 10 cars. Wyatt beat out Mark Martin and Jesse Lowe for the victory.

Joey Whittenburg won the Sportsman feature while Dwayne Fox took the win in Street Stocks. John Stout won in Mod Lites and Dan Duggan scored the win in Hornets. Jim Bourke was the Legends winner, Joseph Underwood won in Dwarfs and Lucas Presley led the way in Junior Hornets.

North Georgia Speedway: The Chatsworth, GA facility was in action on Saturday night with five classes competing.

Johnny Cloer, Jr. was the winner in a field of 11 Steelhead Late Models. He beat out Daven Dilbeck and Tyler Adams for the win.

Chip Brindle finished ahead of Brad Coffey and Jimmy Elliott in the Crate Late Model class. Billy Callahan won in A-Hobby while Anthony Franklin took the checkered flag in B-Hobby. Keith Hackney won in the Pony class.

Tazewell Speedway: The high-banked track located in upper east Tennessee hosted the national World of Outlaws Late Models Series on Saturday night.

Volunteer Speedway: Track owner Joe Loven staged what he termed a “vengeance” race on Saturday night after he hastily scheduled a $10,000-to-win unsanctioned Super Late Model race on his track located in Bulls Gap, Tenn.

Three-time and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Jimmy Owens took the victory in the ‘Mad Dawg 60’ feature event. The ‘Newport Nightmare’ started from the pole but had to work his way around early leader Vic Hill on lap 22 to get the win. Hill, Casey Roberts, Michael Chilton and Mark Douglas rounded out the top-5 in the Super Late Model portion of the event.

Jason Welshan earned his second Limited Late Model victory in as many weeks on the high-banked track while Jensen Ford scored his second Crate Late Model win of the year. The LLM race was marred by a serious crash that left driver Dan Tipton trapped in his car for an extended period of time.

Dale Reed passed Jamie Whitt late in the going to get the win in the Modified Hobby class.

Wartburg Speedway: The high-banked quarter-mile had all of its six classes in action on Saturday night.

Brett Ashley took the win in the Late Model class while Jeff Hamby led the way in the Open Wheels. Tony Shannon won in Sportsman, Andy Williams in Super Street, Daniel Raimondi in Thunder and Lance Frost in Extreme.
