Chris Madden to skip final weekend of Spring Nationals

A check of Chris Madden’s website reveals a bit of a surprise. The current leader of the Spring Nationals mini-series standings has removed this weekend’s events from his schedule. The upcoming threesome of races to be held on Georgia race tracks(Boyd’s Speedway, Dixie Speedway and Rome Speedway) are to serve as the final stretch run for the Ray Cook promoted tour.

After three completed races on the weather plagued series that has had five of its events either rescheduled or cancelled, Madden holds a lead of 14 points over Billy Ogle, Jr. with Donald McIntosh, David Payne and Stacy Boles in close contention.

Uncharacteristically, the 2015 season has seen the Gray Court, SC driver go winless in twelve starts to date. That statistic has apparently led to a great deal of frustration for the five-time Southern Nationals champion who will soon be turning 40-years-old.

Madden, a longtime campaigner of Bloomquist Race Cars, has even entered races this year driving a Barry Wright Race Car in search of an answer for his struggles.

Chris Madden will likely not be entered in this weekend's Spring Nationals races.

Interestingly, Madden’s likely absence will elevate Billy Ogle, Jr. and Donald McIntosh as the top-2 contenders for the Spring Nationals title. Ogle, who won this series championship in 2014, was replaced last September in the Larry Garner owned Blount Motorsports ride by McIntosh.

Ogle, who now drives for veteran racer Stacy Boles, won the World of Outlaws Late Models event at Tazewell Speedway earlier this year along with a Spring Nationals race at that same track. McIntosh has won an unsanctioned race at 411 Motor Speedway and an Ultimate Super Late Models Series event at North Georgia Speedway this season.
