The Cookeville Speedway, formerly known as Tennessee Motor Speedway, was sold at auction on Saturday, May 9th. The 35+ acres of property located at 8401 Ditty Rd in Baxter, Tenn. brought a price of $492,200 with a buyer’s premium in the absolute auction conducted by Mills Real Estate & Auction Co of Scottsville, KY.

The auction company says that the property was purchased as an investment and will continue to be listed for sale by the new owner. The name of the buyer was not disclosed and no future plans for the site have been determined.

The 3/8 mile clay oval located adjacent to I-40 in Putnam County has set idle for the better part of ten years. During the 1990’s and early 2000’s, the track hosted events sanctioned by the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series and the Tennessee Thunder DirtCar Series among others.
